EU Blue Card Visa – Finland

Overview

The EU Blue Card is a residence permit for highly skilled professionals seeking employment in Finland. This permit allows non-EU nationals to work and reside in Finland under favourable conditions and provides mobility within the EU.

Who Can Apply?

You may apply for an EU Blue Card if:

  • You are coming to Finland for highly qualified employment.
  • You have a confirmed job offer lasting at least six months.
  • Your gross salary is at least EUR 3,827 per month (2025 rate).
  • You hold higher professional qualifications, demonstrated by:
    • higher education degree (minimum three-year programme), OR
    • At least five years of professional experience at a level comparable to a higher education qualification.

The EU Blue Card is granted for up to two years. If your contract is shorter than two years, the permit is issued for the contract duration plus three months.

Fast-Track & D Visa Options

  • You can apply via the Fast-Track Service and receive your EU Blue Card within two weeks.

You may also apply for a D visa, allowing you to travel to Finland immediately after your residence permit is issued.

Documents Required

Visa Application Form

  • duly completed, dated, and signed residence permit application form.

Passport

  • valid passport issued within the last 10 years.
  • Must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay.
  • Must contain at least two blank pages.

UK Residency

  • Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Employment-Related Documents

  • Job offer or employment contract (minimum six months).
  • Employer’s verification of special expertise required for the position.
  • Higher education degree certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of at least five years of relevant professional experience (if applicable).
  • Statement from employer confirming compliance with the minimum salary requirement (EUR 3,827 per month).

Proof of Accommodation

  • Rental agreement or home ownership documents in Finland.

Proof of Travel

  • Flight reservation or travel itinerary.

Application Process

  1. Submit Your Application
    • Apply online via Enter Finland or through a paper application.
    • Employer must fill in terms of employment and provide supporting documents.
  2. Pay the Application Fee
    • Payment is made online or at the Finnish mission during identity verification.
  3. Identity Verification
    • Visit a Finnish embassy or consulate to prove your identity and submit original documents.
  4. Decision Notification
    • Applicants receive updates via email or SMS.
    • If granted a residence permit, a residence permit card will be issued.

Right to Work

  • EU Blue Card holders can work in highly qualified employment and are not tied to a specific employer.
  • If you already hold an EU Blue Card from another EU country, you may apply for mobility rights to work in Finland.
  • Specialists can work without a residence permit for up to 90 days under certain conditions.

Ensure your visa application photograph meets the following requirements:

  • Recent & Quality: Taken within the last six months, high resolution, no marks or creases.
  • Size & Composition35–40mm width, face covering 70–80% of the frame, sharp and clear.
  • Expression & Eyes: Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes fully visible, no hair over the face.
  • Lighting & Background: Even lighting, no shadows, plain light-colored background.
  • Headwear & Glasses: Head coverings allowed only for religious reasons, glasses must not obstruct eyes.
  • Digital Standards: High-resolution, photo-quality print.

Avoid blurry images, red-eye effects, obstructed features, or overexposure. Non-compliant photos may result in delays or rejection.
