Tourist & Private Visit Visa (Family & Friends) – Finland

Overview

The Finland Tourist & Private Visit Visa allows non-UK citizens residing in the UK to visit Finland for tourism, leisure, or to visit family and friends. This visa grants entry into Finland and other Schengen Area countries for a short stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Eligibility

  • Non-UK passport holders residing in the UK with a valid UK residency permit.
  • Individuals traveling for tourism, leisure, or visiting family and friends.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient financial means, valid travel insurance, and proof of accommodation.
  • For family visits, an invitation letter from the host in Finland may be required.

Processing Time

  • Standard processing: Approximately 10 working days from the date of application submission.
  • Early application: Recommended to apply at least 15 days before travel.
  • Maximum timeframe: Processing can extend to 45 calendar days in certain cases.
  • Applications cannot be submitted earlier than 6 months before the planned trip.

Documents Required

Visa Application Form

  • Completed, signed, and dated Schengen visa application form.

Passport

  • Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date.
  • Issued within the last 10 years.
  • Must contain at least two blank pages.
  • Passports with manual corrections or name amendments are not accepted.

Travel Medical Insurance

  • Coverage must be valid for the entire trip across the Schengen Area.
  • Minimum coverage of €30,000 for medical emergencies, repatriation, and accidents.
  • If applying for a multiple-entry visa, insurance must cover the first trip.

Proof of Travel

  • Confirmed return flight reservation or proof of onward travel if not returning to the UK.
  • If traveling to multiple Schengen countries, a travel itinerary outlining all destinations.

Proof of Accommodation

  • Hotel booking confirmation for the entire stay OR
  • If part of a tour, official tour booking confirmation.

Invitation Letter (For Private Visit Only)

  • A formal invitation letter from the host in Finland, including:
    • Host’s full name, address, and contact details.
    • Copy of the host’s passport data page and/or Finnish residence permit.
    • Details of the visit (purpose, duration, and relationship to the applicant).
    • Signed and dated by the host.
  • If applicable, proof of family relationship such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate.
  • If sponsorship is involved, attach the official sponsorship declaration from Finnish authorities.

Proof of Relationship (For Private Visit Only)

  • For family members of a Finnish citizen:
    • Marriage certificate (if married in Finland or UK).
    • Extract from the Finnish Population Register (VTJ) confirming family relationship.
    • Birth certificate for minors visiting their Finnish parent/guardian.

Proof of Finance

  • UK bank statements from the last 3 months, showing sufficient funds for the trip.
  • If financially supported by a spouse, provide:
    • Marriage certificate
    • Spouse’s bank statements
    • Spouse’s signed declaration of financial support
  • If supported by parents, provide:
    • Birth certificate
    • Parent’s bank statements
    • Parent’s signed declaration of financial support

Proof of Employment or Studies

(Documents must be recent and dated within the last 30 days at the time of submission.)

  • For employees:
    • Recent employment letter on company letterhead (with job title, salary, and employment status).
    • Payslips for the last 3 months.
  • For self-employed applicants:
    • Letter from accountant, banker, or solicitor confirming self-employment.
    • Company registration proof and most recent tax returns.
  • For students:
    • recent, signed letter from the school/university confirming enrollment and attendance.

UK Residency

  • Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Additional Documents for Minors (Under 18)

  • Birth certificate.
  • If traveling without both parents, provide:
    • Written consent from the non-traveling parent(s)/guardian(s).
    • Copies of parent(s)/guardian(s) passports.
    • Proof of school enrollment (for UK-based minors).

Additional Notes

  • Missing documents may result in visa refusal or processing delays.
  • The Finnish Embassy may request additional documents or an interview.

Photo Specifications

Ensure your visa application photograph meets the following requirements:

  • Recent & Quality: Taken within the last six months, high resolution, no marks or creases.
  • Size & Composition35–40mm width, face covering 70–80% of the frame, sharp and clear.
  • Expression & Eyes: Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes fully visible, no hair over the face.
  • Lighting & Background: Even lighting, no shadows, plain light-colored background.
  • Headwear & Glasses: Head coverings allowed only for religious reasons, glasses must not obstruct eyes.
  • Digital Standards: High-resolution, photo-quality print.

Avoid blurry images, red-eye effects, obstructed features, or overexposure. Non-compliant photos may result in delays or rejection.
